DESCRIPTION :
Electrical systems - whether they involve generation facilities, high-voltage transmission networks, or distribution grids - were established decades ago and have been progressively reinforced over time. The techniques and tools used to analyze their behavior have evolved accordingly, ensuring continued ability to anticipate potential issues.
However, the energy transition, which involves the large-scale integration of renewable energy sources, is bringing about major changes in the architecture and topology of power networks, and consequently in how they are managed.
Historically centered around alternating current (AC) operation, the growing integration of components based on power electronics and direct current (DC) is structurally transforming the behavior of these systems, requiring updates to analysis methods and the associated tools.
In recent years, the ecosystem of power grid analysis tools has been organized to allow stakeholders across the sector to collaborate more effectively in developing the necessary features to continue studying the behavior of evolving power networks.
Open source has also experienced significant growth in this domain, fostering innovation through the emergence of new methods for analyzing power grids, with the goal of designing more reliable and resilient systems.
In this context, developing and structuring expertise that combines industrial-grade software development with a deep understanding of power system operations is essential to support this transformation.
Missions
Contribute to the energy transition by developing tools that promote the large-scale integration of renewable energy into transmission and distribution power grids.
Support the development and structuring of activities dedicated to implementing power grid analysis tools, including modeling, steady-state calculations, dynamic analysis, small-signal analysis, and more.
Contribute to the development of open-source frameworks within collaborative projects, both for R&D activities and to address new operational needs expressed by clients.
Participate in the development of power grid analysis tools internally at SuperGrid Institute, leveraging results from European research projects.
